From each college or university listed on the undergraduate transcript.

 

$50 application fee

Pay online @http://admissions.tu.edu/Apply-Education.html with your credit or debit card. 

 

2 letters of recommendation

Must be signed  and attached to your online application @http://admissions.tu.edu/Apply-Education.html.

To complete before enrolling in classes:

 

Livescan

 

Finger print clearance, valid for limited time.

Go to your local police station.  

 

Certificate of Clearance

 

Issued by California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC)

Wait 72 hours after completing Livescan before applying.  Go to www.ctc.ca.gov/

Mid-page, select CA Educators tab >Click - How to Apply> Scroll down to Certificate of Clearance section >   Complete the Direct Web online application.

Fee:  pay online with credit card.

Inquire about status of fingerprinting?  Call: 916-227-4557  with  name, Social Security #, DOB, and ATI #.They will tell you if your fingerprint evaluation is  PENDING EVALUATION  or PENDING FURTHER EVALUATION. If so, then call 888-921-2682, #5.                    

Certificate of Clearance is valid for 5 years.

 

TB examination

Skin or x-ray, with negative results and completed within the past 2 years.

To complete before Becoming Intern Qualified (in addition to requirements above):

 

120  hours of classroom instruction in teacher education

The first three classes (EDU 770, 771, 772 or 773) meet this requirement.

 

Official CBEST Results

Results are valid for life.     Register to take the exam:        http://www.cbest.nesinc.com/

Candidate receives CBEST score via the US mail. Make a copy of the results and bring it to the GSOE office for your file.    CBEST does NOT send your scores to Touro.

 

Official CSET Results

(Verify subject matter knowledge)

Results are valid for 5 years.      Two options:

1.California Standards Examination for Teachers (CSET). Register online at http://www.cset.nesinc.com/  Candidate receives CSET score via the US mail. Make a copy of the results and bring it to the GSOE office for your file.    CEST does NOT send your scores to Touro.                  

OR

2.Secure a “Subject Matter Equivalency Letter”  from a university verifying completion of a CCTC-approved subject matter program. Include your official undergraduate transcript in a sealed envelope. There is a fee for this service. Send your cover letter and your official undergraduate transcripts to a Credentials Office at a California university that has both your undergraduate curricular area and a teacher education program.  The Subject Matter Equivalency Letter should be addressed to:

US Constitution Requirement: 

Show competency in the principles of the U.S. Constitution.

Two options:    Complete a course given by a regionally accredited college/university in the provisions and principles of the U.S. Constitution, with a grade of “C” or higher.

OR

Pass US Constitution Test offered on line:      www.USConstitutionExam.com

 

Secure advisor’s signature.

Meet with advisor before securing an intern contract and have program advisor sign the “Touro University California Intern Contract” form.

 

Secure a contract with an accredited school district (K-12) or County Office of Education or Non-Public School. 

The contract must be 60% or higher FTE.

The contract must be in the area of your credential program.

Touro University must have a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the school district or County Office of Education or Non-Public School.

 

As an Intern

 

 

Intern Support Class

Unless enrolled in EDU 761 or 781 (Student Teaching and Seminar) all interns must enroll in the Intern Support Class (EDU 728 or 729) each semester they are working as an intern.

All Touro coursework with minimum 3.0 GPA

Two-thirds of units must be completed in-residence.

Exit Interview with Program Advisor

 

When all requirements are complete, Touro University’s Credential Analyst files the recommendation for the preliminary teaching credential.  The California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) emails the candidate via the personal email address on file with the CTC, and online payment is due before the CTC issues the preliminary credential, valid for five years.
